Where to Start

I want to learn to fly; where do I start?

We have good news, the first step is super easy with no obligations: Book a Discovery Flight! For just $100, a Discovery Flight will allow you to spend an hour with a flight  instructor, go on an introductory flight around the Batesville area in one of our aircraft, and even take the flight controls if you want to try your hand at flying an airplane!

If the Discovery Flight confirms your commitment to your flying goals, or if you don't even need a Discovery Flight to be sure this is what you want to do, the next step is to buy a ground school kit and book your first lesson.

Whether you want to be a career pilot or just have the ability to fly your family to the beach, the first phase of your journey will be to get a Private Pilot Certificate. From there, you can add things like an Instrument Rating and Tailwheel Endorsement. Finally, you can kick off your career by getting your Commercial Pilot Certificate which will allow you to take your first job flying for hire!

Breakdown of Flight Hour Requirements for Private Pilot

Per 14 CFR § 61.109

Note: These numbers are the MINIMUM requirements that are representative of a perfect scenario. Do not be discouraged if you have significantly more hours than required by the time you take your checkride! That is VERY normal due to weather, aircraft maintenance, life events,  and the simple fact that different people learn at different paces. Our advise, whether you are training with us or anywhere else, is to take your time, enjoy the journey, and focus on absorbing as much knowledge and experience as you possibly can during your training.
